Global Warming
Global warming is a very big problem for mankind and the
whole of Earth. Although there is controversy over the impact of man on global
warming, it is clear that, since industrialisation, people have significantly
increased greenhouse gases affecting global warming. Global warming will cause
and has already partly caused major changes in the earth's climate. Warming
will intensify the warming itself by, for example, increasing the release of
greenhouse gases from the soil and the seas.
Studies tell us how glaciers will melt and floodwaters will
cause great destruction along the coasts and on the slopes and roots of the
mountains. Various extreme phenomena such as storms and heat waves will also
increase and at the same time intensify. The average temperature in the north
pole region has risen by five degrees in 100 years and continues to rise.
Marine ice is reported to have to be dwindling by 14% in three years, which is
faster than in the previous 30 years.
The gulf stream recycles Atlantic water: it brings warm and
salty water to the north and takes cold water south. Observations on the
decline in the Gulf stream have been made, but future changes have been
unpredictable. Some models have predicted that the Gulf stream would start to
slow down, which would slow down global warming in the north. The climate may
even cool down. The melting of glaciers has brought even more fresh water to
the North Atlantic, which has slowed down the sinking of cold saltwater.
There is a rising concern on the problems caused by rising
sea levels. Though there will be no sudden flooding in the next few decades, if
the water rise exceeds a metre, many coastal towns are in trouble.
Sea level rises have begun to take into account the design of
bridges and buildings, for example in the United States and the Netherlands. 12
of the world's 19 largest cities are located on the coast. Rising sea levels
will cause enormous economic damage.
As climate change increases the number of different extreme
phenomena, damage will be caused by natural disasters in the future. Hurricanes
are becoming more common and their destructive power is growing. The rise in
sea level temperatures has a direct impact on the destructive power of hurricanes.
Various heat waves and the like will become more common and cause human deaths.
Climate change is causing great damage to different
ecosystems. The planet's biodiversity will suffer. Significant changes in the
functioning and interactions of ecosystems will occur. For example, the seas
are acidifying, causing problems for the lime-shelled organisms of the seas and
for the organisms dependent on them. Corals are poorly resistant to changes and
an increase of already a few degrees will cause large deaths.
Environmental refugeeism will be a major problem in the
future. Millions of people will be refugees in the future under droughts,
floods and other environmental problems. For example, from the Mediterranean
and Africa, people are forced to go north, where the climate is cooler. Drought
will cause problems in food production and famine will worsen. Fresh water will
be what is being fought instead of current oil. As the climate warms up,
epidemics will also become more common. For example, some pathogens do not
survive in the north due to the cold, but when the climate warms up, they can
spread to the north.
The greenhouse effect, or global warming, will cause major
problems for The Earth. The earth's nature will suffer badly. People's
dwellings will suffer great damage to rising sea levels and extreme weather
events. It will not be easy to solve these problems. Emissions will not be
reduced without a significant reduction in the standard of living.
Environmental refugees, famine, lack of fresh water and various diseases will
also become major problems.
