Christmas festival in India
India is a country of festivals
where people from all communities collectively celebrate different kinds of
festivals. Just Diwali, Holi, Rakhi, Christmas is also a special festival. It
is a festival of Christian community, but people of other religions also
celebrate it. While schools are shut on this day, Christmas trees are planted
in malls of localities and cities besides homes and various events are held for
children.
Christmas festival is celebrated by the Christian community on
the 25th of December every year. It is the largest festival of Christians. On this
day, Lord Jesus Christ was born. Weeks before Christmas, people of Christian
community start the preparing. clean their homes on this day, buy new clothes
and make a variety of dishes. Holidays lasts for about a week. Most homes and markets
are illuminated with stars and colourful lights.
A few days before Christmas,
various events begin in the churches, which continue till New Year. Christmas carols and songs are played
everywhere. Different types of games and events are organised and prayer
services are conducted.
Churches are specially decorated on
this day and the birth story of Lord Jesus Christ is displayed as a drama. In
many places, night prayer meetings are held on the pre-Christmas night, which
runs till 12 o'clock in the night. At exactly 12 o'clock, people wish their
loved ones for Christmas and celebrate with joy and happiness.
There is a special prayer meeting
in the churches on Christmas morning. In many places, a procession is held on
Christmas Day in which tableaux of Lord Jesus Christ are presented. Not only
the Christian community but people of other religions also pray by lighting
candles in the church on this day.
Christmas is the most attractive festival
for children as their favourite Santa Claus, brings a lot of gifts and
chocolates for children. It is a fictional character that has a special fondness
for children. It is said that the Santa Claus dressed in red and white
clothes comes from heaven and gives people the desired things as gifts. That is
why some people also make children happy by wearing Santa Claus costumes.
On this day, Christmas tree is
planted in the courtyard and is specially decorated and through this, everyone
gives gifts to each other. Cakes have a special significance on this festival. It
is a special Christmas dish, without it, Christmas is incomplete. The custom of
feeding sweets and delicious cakes is very old.
On Christmas, preparing sweets,
cakes and decorating Christmas trees in churches and homes is of utmost
importance. People like to welcome guests at home and spread the message of
love and joy.
