My Favourite Sport - Cricket

There are many types of games. The once played within the room are called indoor games, while the games played on the field are called outdoor games. Different types of sports are important parts of the exercise. Therefore, the games should be selected only suited to their interest and physical ability. Sports today has become an excellent medium for enhancing cultural harmony between different nations. My favourite sport is cricket. In the modern era, cricket has gained international importance. In India, the cricket remains the most attractive sport. People have a wonderful fondness for this game. Be it the kids, the old, young men, all are crazy about it.

Cricket was born in England. From England itself, the game reached India, then it spread to other countries as well. The game was first played as per rules in 1850 AD at a school called Gilford. Cricket's first Test match was played in Melbourne, Australia in 1877 AD. India played their first Test match against England in 1932. The Test match is five days in two innings. Apart from the Test match, the game can also be played for four-day, three-day, one-day. Nowadays, one-day cricket matches and Twenty-20 matches have become more popular. The Twenty-20 match ends in three or four hours.

The game of cricket is played in a large oval ground. The pitch or wicket in the middle of the ground and is the focal point of the game. Three poles are buried at equal distances on both sides of the pitch, called 'wickets'. There are two teams in this game. Each team consists of 11 – 11 players. When the game starts, one team players do the batting and the other team players do the fielding. The win-loss decision is based on runs. The game's referee is called the umpire who stands behind the wickets during the game.

Initially, cricket was called the game of king-maharajas or rich people. They used to play this game for their own pleasure. After independence, hockey was given the status of national sports, but cricket also became popular alongside. The game takes more time and money, yet today it has found fame from cities to villages. Its popularity is proved by the fact that wherever this game takes place, the masses rush towards the ground.

The game of cricket is popular, however, there are also some disadvantages as often all the work is paralysed during cricket matches. People only talk about runs and wickets that they focus less on their work. You will see people glued to their radios and transistors to get the latest updates on the matches. This may sometimes affect national production. Also, there are many controversies attached to the game, match-fixing, betting to name a few.

However, cricket still remains the most favourite sport in India and all over the world. The game has been linked to India's identity. People are mentally beginning to exceed the limits of "passion" over cricket. Cricket has become a religion of the people. The defeat in cricket gets people depressed. Victory in cricket makes people happy and dance on the streets. The game has a confluence of wealth, fame and enjoyment. It is not just a favourite sport of mine, but the most preferred and favourite sport of millions of Indians.
